Certified Nature-Based Therapist, Level 1 (CNBT1)
If you’re looking for a therapist to truly meet you where you’re at with validation and empathy, please reach out. I come from a strengths-based perspective, considering bio-psycho-socio-spiritual influences on your life and wellbeing. Together, we will balance support and processing with skills and resource enhancement. I was “raised” as a counsellor in trauma-informed, intersectional, feminist theory which remains with me. The foundation of my career has been supporting women, children and youth as survivors of violence and abuse in their families, homes and intimate partner relationships. I have been working in social services for 14 years, counselling and consulting for counsellors for approximately 8 years in community based, non-profit and private settings in rural, remote and urban environments, in wilderness, gardens, offices and online. I am adaptive and integrative in my approach, adjusting for your needs, priorities, preferences and stage of development.
I am drawn to nature-based therapies based on my own relationship with the natural world, wilderness, adventure and gardening. I know I am at my best when I am outdoors, immersed in wild places or nurturing the growth and restoration of living things, natural places and people. I am certified as a lake water canoe instructor, flatwater SUP instructor, was previously a level 2 sea kayak guide, I teach wilderness first aid and ran Outer Coast Outfitters in northern BC for seven years doing private ocean canoe and hiking guiding, kids outdoor adventure and education camps and paddling instruction.
Areas of focus include: trauma and PTSD, sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, traumatic brain injuries, ADH, Autism, chronic pain and illness, anxiety and stress-related issues and I love working with children, youth and the LGBTQ2SI+ and neurodivergent communities.
Approaches and modalities include: nature-based therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, the Safe and Sound Protocol, pain reprocessing therapy and CBT within a culturally sensitive, person-centered, strengths-based framework.
I am registered with the Crime Victims Assistance Program, Autism Funding Unit, AgSafe and can invoice directly to these programs for clients who qualify as well as the Metis Counselling Connection Program and many insurance providers.
